Jaycees Against Youth
Smoking (JAYS)
The United States Junior Chamber believes in this statement: Kids shouldn't smoke! The problem is, despite the existence of state minimum-age laws, too many underage people buy cigarettes and smoke. The first phase of our initiative was the "We Card" program, where Jaycees enlisted convenience store clerks in signing a pledge that they would "card" questionable purchasers to determine their exact age, attacking underage smoking at the distribution level. The program was so successful it was taken over by the National Association of Convenience Stores after only two years.
Now, the U. S. Junior Chamber has enter Phase II of our youth smoking prevention message by getting directly into community schools and educating children at an early age with the JAYS Program.
What is the JAYS
Nationwide Chapter Project?
Jaycees Against Youth Smoking (JAYS) is a free, educational program that goes directly into elementary and middle school classrooms to teach children about the dangers of smoking and to help them make the informed decision to be smoke free.
