Lion's quarterback Jon Kitna to speak at May convention!
We have confirmed our guest speaker for the May convention at Boyne Mountian Resort. Our speaker will be Jon Kitna, quarterback of the Detroit Lions! Jon Kitna has been noted for his great leadership on and off the field and it should be a lot of fun to hear him share his thoughts as he addresses our membership in May.

Kitna has exerted his leadership ever-since taking over the starting spot prior to 2006, and has been named a team captain for the past two seasons. As one of five captains for the 2006 team, Kitna immediately brought solid experience and great leadership to the Detroit locker room in his first season as a Lion. He completed 2006 by compiling one of the most productive seasons in team history by a quarterback as he set records for completion and attempts and was only the second Lions™ passer to throw for 4,000 yards. By passing for 4,000 yards in 2007, he is now one of nine passes in NFL history to pass for 4,000 yards in back-to-back seasons.He officially signed with the Lions March 20, 2006 after spending the previous five seasons with the Bengals. Kitna was Cincinnati's starting quarterback for three seasons (2001-03) and a backup and mentor for Carson Palmer his final two seasons (2004-05). He entered the league as an undrafted free agent for Seattle in 1996. Prior to the 1997 NFL season, he played for Barcelona of the World League and led the Dragons to the league title game where he garnered World Bowl MVP honors after completing 23-of-31 passes for 401 yards and two touchdowns in a victory over the Rhein Fire. He led the Seahawks to their first playoff appearance in a decade in 1999, his first full season as a starter.

In addition to Jon's on the field accomplishments, he has accomplished quite a bit off the field, including:
  • Started the Jon and Jennifer Kitna Eternal Blessings Foundation in 2001, supporting various Christian ministries.
  • Started a Christian-based ministry at Remann Hall in Tacoma, recruiting teammates to join him in spending time with the teenagers at the center.
  • Donated Lions home game tickets to the Boys & Girls Club through the Lions CATS (Caring Athletes Ticket Service) for Kids program and took time after home games to meet the youth that attended the game.
  • Took part in the 2007 Lions Pet Calendar which helps to raise money for the Dearborn Animal Shelter.
  • Participated in 17th annual Detroit Lions Invitational golf outing that raised more than $100,000 for Detroit Lions Charities.

This convention will be one of the best in a very long time! I encourage each and every one of you to attend, and remember to sign up in March to get the early bird rate!

In addition to the programs offered in the above mentioned areas the Jaycees provide opportunities to network, make new friends, learn the art of delegation, improve upon planning and public speaking skills, make a difference in the lives of others, and make a difference in your life and in the life of your local communities.
